Screeenplay, the core essence in a film is mastered by none other than Bhagyaraj. It is funny that i'm talking about screenplay here beacause of those younger days (say around 16ish) were i used to pass comment about a movie saying the screenplay is great ; photography is great to friends around, haha just not knowing what they actually meant. It was just to prove a fact that i know those captions. But there is always those "Sweet nothing feelings" that give us the most pleasure in life :)
Now, not to drift from the topic. Bahgyaraj is an actor/director with great talent and has proved to be very successful with a distinct style. Bhagi movies are entertainment at the very best. Passing message in a lighter vein is not an easy job. You need to have the right mix of comedy vs the story line. Bhagi's idea is to capture the natural events in a day to day life and derive the comedy out of it. It makes anybody laugh with that approach. The comedy track in his movies just happens during the length of the movie and never deviates. He is also the first to introduce the double meaning jokes to tamil cinema and now every film carries it big time. He is the best natural hero without a doubt. I just love his movies and particularly the movies of the good old days. What a great director.
Some of his childhood story that i came across. The ambition question in class is just an usual one and when that question came from his teacher, Bhagi said that he wanted to become an actor like MGR or Sivaji and the whole class laughed at him. The teacher said whats wrong with his ambition. It is also a nice profession and prasied Bhagi that he said what he really wanted to become. Bhagi still remembers that and has given an identity to the teacher in his interview once. Acting being his only ambition, there was also a day where he had a chance to act in a school play during the 10th standard. He was to act with another boy who cast a women role. During the session, Bhagi did not respond to the scene and was looking at the other boy. The Master was asking Bhagi, why did he not respond next after the other boys dialogue . Bhagi answered his master with a straight face saying that the other boy was fiddling with his school badge and how would it look wearing women clothes on the stage. The master had to control is laugh hearing the answer. So this is bhagi for us and he has the great talent to express those nitty gritty nuances in movies too.
