Virtual Dimension / Desktop

Posted by Swamy Srinivasan aka Kittu Mama On 1:39 AM

Virtual Dimension is nothing but a new functionality from Microsoft to handle the hassle of finding tons of tasks that gets piled up in the task bar. That said, Virtual Dimension is simply a virtual desktop tool for Windows. I always wanted to have this feature and finally Microsoft has come with the solution to be plugged into coming up Windows OS. If you have only a few windows open at a time, I guess there isn't much. However, if you are working with lots of applications, your desktop can become overcrowded: you lose time finding your windows, taskbar buttons are too small for you to read the text and find the right window, using drag and drop becomes a nightmare.

Virtual Desktop makes it easier to handle multiple windows. Virtual Desktop was commonly available in Linux Distros. However, Microsoft never gave one for Windows. Then, there were third party software companies, which made Virtual Desktop software, but none of them were free. Now, with the advent of Virtual Dimension, one can finally get a virtual desktop for his Windows PC without a hitch. Since it is released under GNU Public License terms, one can even download the source code and modify according to one's needs. Virtual Dimensions gives an option of unlimited desktops and preview window allowing to select the desktop to switch to and to access many of the functions on-the-fly.

Microsoft, as it has always been, never give upfront features tied to any software. They always try to compete other products success and give it in a new flavor.
