I saw Sivaji y'day and could not still come out of that. The movie though was a lengthier one, it was really tough to believe that the movie has ended(specially the 2nd half). Cathcing up with Rajini in all the frames was not possible as the pressure of concentrating too much produced a fuzzy effect on the eyes. The movie on the thinner line was trying to give a similar message that Shankar usually is at his best but i think no body would really take it to heart with rajini being the projection in all the frames. The Indian and Anniyan effect was coinciding with the message but when it comes to Rajini, the justice to the message is not going to happen. Overall i liked the movie but there were lots of here and theres that could have been treated well to have given a much more stampede feel.
The good :
1. Rajini, Rajini and Rajini is the best good. After all we went to watch him and his agmark mannerisms and its obvious that Rajini has worked very very hard to live up to that expectation.
2. Songs - Vaaji and Athiradhi themes were high tech. Vaajis set should have costed the movie a big lumpsum and it was a royal treat to watch the song. Athiradi was like watching a james bond movie with a song in it. It was the next best song in the movie. Rajini suited very well for the song as it had lots of his distinct comical and larger than life sequences.
3. Chumma adhirudhulla & Cool = The latest slogan. When rajini says it, its like adding cherries to a finest ice cream on earth.
4. Rajini's looks in the second half. Thanks to Shankar that he gave us the Rajini we all have seen growing up. The tea kadai scene rajini is enough to prove that rugged and stylish looks of rajini. His dialgoues with Suman were classy.
5. The Mottai Boss effect in the climax was the best. With that get up, he can also be used in some next series of Matrix :-). It just damn gave him a much more charismatic presence on the screen.
6. Suman, Haneefa, Bhaskar were some quality characters in the movie. Sujathas dialogues were highly impressive and i'm sure that i would have missed many of his dialogues looking at rajini. Well, i can always cacth up :-)
The bad :
1. Rajinis intro scene seriously shocked me. Even the chota mota directors have given some great rajini intros and i dont know why Shankar was convinced for such an intro with rajini just turning back to show his face.
2. Adding more irritation to the intro was the Ballelakka song which came in like a Telugu song that lands during a totally unwanted moment. Particularly when Rajini was asking for a song from the Discotheque, how can a song be shown like that is still a mystery. The song in itself was not at all picturised well and nayanthara was dancing like a "uricha kozi". God, better she gains some weight. We tamil folks (i hope everyone would agree) have been brought up to watch some healthy flesh :)
3. The first half was little dragging to involve some comedy scenes and i felt pattimanram Raja and Pappaiya a little unorthodox for movies.
ALL in ALL, it was Rajinis movie with Shankar trying to add some of his acclaimed flavors. Watching it again and again might give some more thoughts, but this is all i feel from the first hit.

same here. but it would have been a gr8 to have watched it in india. that by itself would have given a better feeling of wathcing the movie..inga ellaarum 15 dollar koduthadhaala no one wanted to shout and miss some scenes or dialogues nu ninaikiraen :)

totally agree. particularly when rajini comes back to life , saying COOL was totally funny.
i can also remeber the scene where rajini says deva pozachuduvaan..when geetha ask yaar sonna..devavae sonaan scene from thalapathi was pretty similar:)
