It has been so long that i watched an English movie in theater but American Gangster has filled the gaps. It was a true story based on a personality in the 1970s-era. It is a movie which can be compared to the lines of Godfather and it is already looking like a major awards contender. Denzel washington as Frank Lucas has brought in every detail of a man who has been the drug lord spoiling the communities in harlem, new york. In a nothing but a volcanic performance, you can feel the nerves of a dangerous man who is surviving by killing the survivers with drug addiction. There is more good news to the film. Russell Crowe , the honest Jersey cop who wants to turn down all the networks of John lucas, has given another great performance in his own dignified style.

Making a slow paced movie and having it narrated with dark visuals has actually brought in more reality into the script and the darkish tones on the complete movie makes you feel to be living around Harlem, the community. Denzels all through performance was stunning and his passion for living rich with family was well shown on the screens. With 2 great performers in the movie, they only get to meet in the climax with a 5 minute exchange of dialgoues and a few expressions on the eyes. It was little different when compared to the usual cat and mouse themes, particularly when it comes to cop and a criminal story. The name of the movie might drive the thoughts to be an action packed movie but it is a big NO. It is all about relevance of characters during the 70's with not an eye catching visuals. Well, the bad is not bad here. It is a movie that had tried to be real and not cinematic.

Infact, there were some strong messages told in a lighter vein; Like involving in any business, there needs to be a brand asscociated i.e., Frank Lucas calling his drug packets, "Blue Magic". Even the bad guy knows family values; Like Frank Lucas taking his old mother to the church every Sunday, no matter what.

The movie is based on a true story and if you can live through that, you can definitely enjoy the movie. It might be a fall out movie for most of them but i feel to have watched a good movie that had not so much technology and hype, which has become the usual in hollywood movie making these days.
