Dasavatharam Review - What could be said about a movie that has taken to world class standards and has made all the fellow indians to be proud of being an Indian. Kamal, you deserve the ulaga nayagan title without an iota of doubt. You can actually call the movie DasavatharaMn (M silent sir).
Dasavatharam is a movie made with the most sensitive subject as the storyline. It is nothing but the ideologies of kamal when it comes to Who and where is God? It is not easy to make a movie on these lines and kamal would best know the controversies that can arise and kill the movie to death. But the complete crew and main heads like Ravikumar, Kamal, Oscar ravichandran were not thinking about the consequences and had made the movie that Indian movie makers have never witnessed. Style and grandeur when presented wrong would simply taking a mocking effect but Dasavatharam was very clear in its technical excellence. The camera work from Ravivarman gets us involved in every frame of the movie. The visual effects were classy and none of the graphics used were let down. For example, the chola period song Kallai Mattum Kandaal was made with immense technology and graphics but it was super real and royal on every pixel.
Dasavatharam is all kamal. Well, it is not the 10 characters that i am talking about. It is about the story, dialogues and an awestruck representation of 10 characters. Many were talking about why do you need these 10 roles on kamal but for a genius like kamal, 10 is not enough. Even 100 might not be enough. On top of that, most of the characters belonged to different religions and different god fearing characters. The movie simply being about God and cirumstances in life, the roles taken by kamal were highly digestable. Lets take a brief view of what these characters were like :
Rangaraja Nambi - Kamal was stunning with the looks and body. Kamal has been a great fan of poetic tamil and it helped his hunger to only perform to his best in a period of its own.
Balaram Naidu - Kamal's work with crazy mohan was very evident in his dialogue writing skills. I would say this is the best movie for kamal for his own scripting. The character from Andhra pradesh was the character that has measured the global audience on a laughing scale. The dialogues, the dialogue deliveries and the mannerisms - What a man he is. I was remembered of a similar mayor character that he has done in Indhran Chandran which was another classy venture from kamal then. On the whole, Balram Naidu would stay in everyone's heart as Kameswaran from Michael Madana Kama Rajan. I want to see this movie again mainly for this character. Infact he had a little resemblance of Hanifa, who is another great comedian/character artist that tamil cinema has found.
Govind Ramasamy - It was kamal as kamal in this character. Kamal has also convinced being a scientist. Kamal for his age has done the chase scenes very well and asin nicely gelled to make the scenes running.
Avatar Singh - It was nothing but a character to show that he follows the jain religion with a spice of also being a singer.
Krishnaveni Paati - A mentally affected brahmin lady. We all know how well kamal can carry the behaviour of women from Avvai Shanmugi but doing an old lady character it only shows that kamal would be the only person to beat himself. The character also was convincing to be part of the story line. Plus, a comedy touch to the character made it complete.
Christian Fletzer - Massive performance. If balram naidu can take the lead of comedy, Fletzer takes the lead on a martial arts villain. The expressions, dialogues and style. It was like watching Arnold or anyother top class Hollywood action hero's. Brilliant, immaculate. No words to praise Fletzer.
Shinghen Narahasi - This one was simply a character that represents the Buddhist religion. The makeup was at its best. No way to say that this is kamal.
George Bush - This one was fitted to prove kamals talent. Well, he was looking like Geroge Bush and some of his mannerisms were a good mockery of George Bush. Great job kamal.
Vincent Poovaragan - This one was the representative of Christian religion plus a character that had the local body language and a person dealing some local issues. The makeup was done well.
and Kalifullah Khan - This one was a representative to the muslim religion. Kamal made this character tall and proved as a tall man too.
Wooooh, it took so long to even write about these characters. No wonder kamal took 2 yrs to give a movie of this class. Making, Visuals, Graphics, Sets - All of them were high class. Particularly, Tsunami was like Tsunami in 2008. Exact impact on the big screen. The story also needed it to destroy the toxic and dangerous substance and bring an end to the story. But the real theme of the movie is not about the substance but about God and consequences in life. That is how i saw it. Kamal would say a dialogue "i am not saying that there is no god. I am only asking it would be nice if there is a god". It is actually true when he asks questions like why there need to be a Tsunami? Why should he be a scientist making this dangerous substance and that had to be killed by a Tsunami? God and correlated situations in life has always been a mystery and would continue to be that way. Belief is different and reality is different.
Dasavatharam - It is a movie that everyone should watch and keep watching for its intense film making and style.
Ulaga Nayaganae. Ulagam engilum unnai minjida yaaru - That brings the end to the movie and this Dasavatharam Review.
