Kamal Haasan as Marmayogi

Posted by Swamy Srinivasan aka Kittu Mama On 9:06 AM

Now that Dasavatharam has ended on a profitable note for kamal, his forthcoming venture is getting into full pace. Marmayogi, kamal's next movie will be bilingual Hindi-Tamil period film, set in the 7th century. Obviously, Kamal Haasan takes the lead role of Marmayogi (Secret saint) and is also said to be directing it. Kamal is certainly driving a ferari on a rocky mountain. Moreover, the beauty queen Hema Malini also plays a role in the film. The film, which is set to become the first Indian feature film produced by Walt Disney Productions, has A. R. Rahman as the music composer. The film, announced with a budget of 120 crore Indian rupees, is set to contest with the next Rajnikanth, Shankar, Rahman trio film, Robot, in a race to be India's most expensive film to date.

Off late with multinational companies and hollywood companies showing interest in indian cinema, moving making in india is becoming bigger and bigger. Well, kamal plays a major part to bring those hollywood companies to India. The success factor also is important here. Thanks to movies like Robot and the biggest sporting event called IPL that just ended last month. The visibility to make money in india has grown to royal heights.

Marmayogi was in the talks after the release of Aalavandhan in 2001 but nothing really happened. After four years from directing Virumaandi in 2004, Kamal Haasan announced Marmayogi as his next project after the completion of his ongoing film, Dasavatharam. Due to unwillingness of producers to sign up completely, several names were mentioned, however finally in early January 2008, it was announced that Walt Disney Productions will make their debut by making a full feature Indian film, co-producing Marmayogi with Reliance Adlabs and Bharat Bala Productions. The film is likely to be released in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi.

The film is believed to be based on the 1886 novel Vendetta: The Story of One Forgotten by Marie Corelli, however others have claimed that it is a remake of the 1951 movie of the same name starring M.G.Ramachandran and that film was widely known for being the first Adult rated movie in Tamil cinema. Another source claimed that "it is a children's film and the story revolves around how Kamal takes a group of people on a journey". Kamal Haasan is hunting for the best locations and searching for areas in the United States as well.

Casting
Apart from Kamal Haasan, Hema Malini and A. R. Rahman that looks to be in the finalized list, Kajol Devgan, Deepika Padukone and Asin Thottumkal have also been in the names to take the lady lead role, while Siddharth Narayan has also been approached for a role in the film. Plus, the tall and the bollywood giant Amitabh Bachchan with ever 16 Rekha have been approached to play cameos in the film as a married couple. Lets wait and see if kamal can bring them all together.
