Unnaipol Oruvan Song Review

Posted by Swamy Srinivasan aka Kittu Mama On 11:42 AM

It is a movie that is going to be watched by complete TamilNadu for 2 main reasons. First is undoubtedly for Kamal the Legend and the second is going to be for Shruti Haasan, who has actually scored music for UnnaiPol Oruvan, the remake of Wednesday, acted by naseeruddin shah. The song has already created a lot of hype in the industry and the media obviously is trying to be polished with its comments, mainly because of Shruti being Kamal's daughter.

Here is my review of Unnaipol Oruvan songs.

Allah Jaane - Well, the start gave some confidence but gradually I felt like hearing a club music (coz I felt like singing Unnai azaithadhu kann uravai ninaithadhu penn for this music). Plus the vocal placements in the song is completely off to the music in the background. Don't know if that was intentional but it is weird. The speech in the song also looked amateurish. I also felt that the alap in the song was quite familiar. Rahman's song normally catches your nerve after a couple of hearing (that is truly rahman's majic) but I'm very confident that this one will not be such a case :)

Nilai varuma - Again it is a typical, sterotype Bombay Jayashree's voice, sung in lower octave. Thanks to Harris Jeyaraj who have stamped Bombay Jayashree's singing in the industry. I actually felt like hearing Harris Jeyaraj song. But the start of the song was like Unakkena Naan Enakena Nee scored by Vijay Antony, which again was a copy from an english song. hmmmm Nothing new. BTW, I want Bombay Jayashree to sing songs like Narumugayae again. OK, this song takes a few credit but I did not feel there was a constant tune in it. The interludes were dead slow and suddenly some chorus falls in place. Kamals singing was OK but he had the typical nasal voice which actually screws the song and the ending of the song with "Nilai varumaa" was amateurish for his age.

Unnaipol Oruvan - The starting of the song was like hearing Dol Dol from Ayudha ezuthu. This is actually a chorus based song but had no flavor in it. Just some guitars jamming in the background. Not at all impressive. It was like hearing a rock performance but sorry, not a rocking one. The kids singing (speaking) in the background, the rendition of "I'm the new face of terror" made it more of a speaking song than a singing song. Disappointment again.

Vaanam yellai - I felt this was far better than all the songs mentioned above. But again, the rap part was like hearing the kuruvi rap song. But I loved Shruti's voice in the song. Well, Blaaze did his usual best but there was something terribly missing to impress.

Unnaipol Oruvan soundtrack has really disappointed me. Shruti Haasan was not up to the mark in composing tunes, although her singing is very good and fresh.
I'm sure the media is going to give a red carpet treatment just because she is kamal hassan’s daughter. May be there was a lot of pressure in getting the work done quickly but I doubt that, as kamal has always looked for perfection in his films. Anyways, Shruti looks very promising for her age and this being her first exposure, I still will be counting on her for future films.

Now, hear the songs of Unnaipol Oruvan
