VV - Vettayadu Vilayadu

Posted by Swamy Srinivasan aka Kittu Mama On 11:42 AM

When it is a mix of Gautham, Kamal and Harris , one has to expect a great outcome. Undoubtedly, the movie has kept its expectations and has proven to be another big hit for Gautham and his crew. Film making in tamil particulary has been evolving to a greater heights and Gautham has definitely proven to mark his contribution.

The directorial touch is very emminent and one can get to feel the nerves of Gautham in many frames of the film. For example, the color tints used in filming for khaaka khaaka and VV on some scenes looked similar. The idea of using bad words would be an easy guess. I actually liked this style as it brings to create a very local feel. If you see in lots of hollywood films, the F word is used in so many movies. This is not for the sake of it but to make it a natural thing. Gautham has also used the F word in this movie as part of the movie is glaced in New York. He has been consistantly using it since Minnalae (a scene where a lady shouts at Vivek in the library).Lots of tamil speaking community has critisized the usage of these words but if one may do some math, the word Santhi Muhurtham is also a mere derivation from the ???? word :).

Now coming to the movie as such. There are movies meant for certain characters and this one can be played none other then the Dr.Kamal Haasan. The key in this movie for Kamal is kamal playing his age. The concept of big heroes acting their age is new to tamil cinema and kamal has set an example to start the trend. I hope that Shankar uses Rajini in a similar fashion that it can be digested by the audience easily. Ofcourse, with Rajini it is a totally different story. The fan dimensions are uncomparable to anybody else in the industry. Lets wait and watch the next big blast, Sivaji. Oooh got shifted with thalaivar rajini a bit. Let me come back to VV again :) Kamals overall performance is fantastic and he has done it with ease. For kamal, acting is like asking him to walk and talk. The authentic Police dress on him looks great. The coolers that he wears is really a cooler for us. The scene where the karka karka song ends and kamal walking is simply the best shot in the movie. Infact, kamal can get to frame that shot as it is one of the best in his career. Thinking about it, the Nayagan scene where he first turns left in that baniyan outfit is another catchy one. What a look he would have at that very instance. I hope folks here knows what scene i'm talking about.

Harris Jeyaraj - This movie is nothing without Harris. I could see the real blend of Illayaraja and Rehman in this movie. Outstanding performance. Serioulsy, the best score in his career. He has surpassed the Anniyan sound to a great extent. This being his heart and soul director, he has given his heart and soul to it. He has for sure given a hollywood feel to the movie. The sound when the body is searched, the sound given in the New york scenes and so on... Harris, you have become the next found "Gem" to tamil movies.

Ravi Verma - The name was given right by his parents. One of the recent developments in Indian film making mostly goes to Cinematography. Ravi Verma is the Verma of VV. The colors used, the angles shot were all mind boggling. Some of the creative touches were making an artistic background in some shots like karka karka song where kamal runs hunting some local rowdies, the scene were Amudhan explaining their past killings. GREAT WORK. Please give us more like these.

In a nutshell, VV is just another cop story as Gautham claims , but has given it in Style. A MUST WACTH from Kittu Mama.
